Parking near LIRR

Is there any tricks to park near LIRR station without having to pay that ridiculous $400 yearly fee?  All the spots  on Park Ave have a 2 hour limit.  Any tips appreciated!

Do you live on or near a bus route? You can buy a combination monthly ticket.

The City of Long Beach is unable to co ordinate the buses with the LIRR during off hours so be careful. Otherwise park south of Park and do some walking. The last time I tried to pay the daily rate the machine was inoperable. TILB.

Just thinking back, in the old days there used to be two additional bus routes feeding in to the Station during rush hours, buses were more frequent and stops were closer together. And I think the fare was a quarter. And, the buses stopped right at the front door of the station, perfectly timed to get your coffee and run for your window seat. It's funny, in terms of "ecology" we've really been backsliding since they built the parking ramp and made the buses less convenient. Lots of showy "green" stuff but they let a valuable part of our transit infrastructure become an afterthought. So we get more traffic, accidents, even a more expensive commute. It's also hard to believe the Far Rockaway bus used to be filled with blue-collar commuters heading to Far Rock to save money taking the subway into Brooklyn, Queens, or lower Manhattan.
