"RESCUE INK MAY BE TAKING LIBERTIES WITH REALITY." -Long Beach City Council President Scott Mandel

I pulled this from here: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=650344841644101&id=631198343558751

Rescue Ink says: "$1 can make a difference between life and death on an animal...These animals deserve a chance.. We are running out of time...
With out your support and donations there will be one more no kill shelter gone..
There will be one less if we don't get support.. And very fast..."

But the Long Beach City Council President Scott Mandel says: "You are correct. There IS no rent as the City gave Rescue Ink the property to use. As for the other claimed charges, without going into each one, I believe Rescue Ink may be taking liberties with reality. We are currently looking into moving forward and what is in the best interest of the animals. Rescue Ink’s contact is up in October, and I truly believe there will be a change. We do, however, have the Police Department overseeing them – to be safe – as well as working with other agencies."

And, LB Police Commissioner Michael Tangney says: "Thank you for bring this to our attention. Rescue Ink has a contract with the City through the middle of next month and will continue to operate the shelter. We have Animal Control Officers and sufficient volunteers to keep the shelter operating if Rescue Ink fails to honor its obligations. We are working to establish a board of governors for the shelter and are accepting proposals from other rescue groups. I have been meeting with an adhoc group to find the right group to run our shelter that provides the best care and placement of our animals. If you would like to attend one of our meetings, we will be meeting in the City Managers Office tomorrow at 5:30 P.M. for about an hour. Be assured we are committed to the proper care of animals in our shelter."

WHY IS RESCUE INK ASKING YOU TO GIVE MONEY FOR "RENT" TO KEEP A SHELTER OPEN THAT HAS NO RISK OF CLOSING? THE ONLY RISK, (MORE LIKE A REALITY), IS THAT RESCUE INK IS NOT WELCOME AND WILL NOT GET THEIR CONTRACT RENEWED IN OCT. THEY HAVE NO LEGAL RIGHT TO ASK YOU TO GIVE DONATIONS FOR WHAT THE CITY HAS GIVEN THEM RENT-FREE.

IF YOU ARE IN THE LONG BEACH AREA, PLEASE ATTEND COMMISSIONER TANGNEY'S MEETING TO TODAY AT 5:30 PM IN THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE TO SHARE YOUR OPINION.

IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE AREA, YOU CAN STILL TAKE ACTION IF THIS TROUBLES YOU.
