Cops: 2 Charged for Illegal Fireworks, Endangering a Teen

Two men had a teenage boy in tow when they were caught with more than 200 explosives and devices in Freeport, police said. 

Freeport Police said they discovered the men with their stash when they responded to an alarm on West Merrick Road at 9:20 p.m. Thursday. Cops found Duane Ennis, 38, of West Hempstead, and Alex Vasquez, 33, of Laurelton, at the site along with an unidentified 13-year-old boy, cops said.

As they investigated the scene, police found more than 200 illegal explosives, including 124 cases of consumer grade fireworks, 60 pieces of commercial grade explosives, and 34 illegal explosive devices, cops said.

Ennis and Vasquez were each charged with one count of possession of explosives, one count of storing explosives, one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawfully dealing with fireworks, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The teenager was released to a family member by police.
