A man is facing robbery charges for an incident that took place in Bayville on Sunday, authorities said.

Nassau detectives say Kyle J. Johnston, 20, of Bayville, had taken a taxi from Long Beach to his Bayville home Sunday afternoon. When they arrived, Johnston refused to pay the fare, and an argument ensued. When the driver got out of the car, Johnston, threw him to the ground “and began to punch and kick the victim in the face,” police said, in a statement.

Johnston then took an unknown amount of cash from the driver, and fled on foot, police said.

The driver transported himself to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Johnston is charged with second-degree robbery and theft of services.

He was scheduled for arraignment on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Sorry for the driver, but what an amazing twist in the typical stereotype headline. "White Gold Coast youth beats and robs LB cab driver." Neither cab company ever asked me to pay up front- but then again I've been calling from the same address for 17 years. If this creep was going to beat up and rob the driver, I don't think paying in advance would have made any difference. I wonder if the North Shore precinct gave the kid a drug test. I wonder if it's a little home-town courtesy. Those charges sound pretty light, robbery and "theft of services." Nothing to suggest he dragged the guy and beat him up. These charges will get plead down to nothing. Plus, it's not very likely the cab driver had health insurance, so he's a double-victim.

People are stupid the kid lost his money he tried going into his house to get it, the taxi driver had a problem with it, got out of the car and started grabbing the kid

Sad that this has happened. Just like any service, the taxi driver should be paid in advance, in most cases. This is a sad story. I hope he's alright. Ansel Marvin | Richmond Taxi
