Cops: Man Steals Jewelry, $15K from Girlfriend's House

A man faces burglary charges after Nassau County Police said he stole jewelry and cash from a safe in his girlfriend's home.

Cops said Jason Batista, 27, of Manhattan, borrowed his girlfriend's car and returned it to her Waukena Avenue home in Oceanside.

Batista entered the home, possibly with a spare key, and took $20,000 worth of jewelry and $15,000 in cash from a safe, police reported.

An investigation led to Batista, who surrendered himself to Fourth Squad detectives Tuesday. All jewelry and cash were recovered.

Batista was charged with second-degree burglary. He will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
