A motorist trapped in a minivan after a head-on collision with a truck was pulled from her vehicle by Long Beach firefighters in Atlantic Beach Wednesday afternoon.
The Long Beach Fire Department, Atlantic Beach Rescue and Nassau County Police responded to the accident scene on Beech Street where a female resident from Atlantic Beach was driving eastbound and collided with a male driver in an American Water construction truck headed westbound at Yates Avenue, according to LBFD Chief Richard Corbett.
When police arrived they found the driver of the minivan trapped in her auto. LBFD firefighters used a Hurst tool to extricate her from the vehicle in about 20 minutes.
"Back up Hurst tolls [were] requested from Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Inwood fire departments due to extent of [the] entrapment," Corbett said.
The driver of the minivan was in serious condition and airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.
