LBPD Investigating Memorial Day Shooting Near Train Station

Suspect still on the loose after early morning shooting.

Long Beach Police are still searching for the suspect who shot a 36-year-old resident early Monday morning on National Boulevard.

According to police, around 1:15 am., the 36-year-old male victim was near the intersection of Azalea Court and National Boulevard when he was approached by a black male suspect.

The suspect pulled out a "dark-colored handgun" and started shooting at the victim. Police said the victim felt a wound in his abdomen and fled the scene  south on National Boulevard on his bike toward LBPD headquarters.

The victim, who was shot three times -- once in the right thigh, once in the right arm and once in the abdomen -- received treatment at police headquarters from the Long Beach Fire Department and was transported to the Nassau University Medical Center, police said.

There was no further update on the victim or description of the suspect.

Police are currently investigating the shooting.
