LBPD: More DWI Patrols for July 4th Weekend

Long Beach is participating in a countywide STOP DWI initiative.

The Long Beach Police Department will participate in a countywide “STOP DWI” initiative throughout the Independence Day weekend, the LBPD has announced.

Lt. Phil Ragona, commanding officer of the traffic division, stated that there will be extra DWI patrols throughout the city during the four-day holiday weekend. “If you are going to drink, don’t drive, designate a driver, use mass transit, or call a cab,” Ragona said in a statement.

This heightened enforcement is being funded entirely through the Nassau County Traffic Safety STOP DWI program, the New York State STOP DWI Coordinators Association, and the Governors Traffic Safety Committee, according to the LBPD.
