Long Beach Man Charged in Atlantic Beach Burglary

Police say he tried to hold the owner in her home.

A Long Beach man was charged with a residential burglary in Atlantic Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Nassau County police, Walter Freyer, 35, unlawfully entered a house in Atlantic Beach, and the owner, a 67-year-old woman, discovered him inside when she returned home at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 25. When the woman tried to flee her home, Freyer attempted to hold her there, but she managed to escape outside to her car, where she called police, detectives said.

The officers that responded to the scene found Freyer inside the home and arrested him. No injuries were reported.

Freyer was charged with second-degree burglary and will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
