Long Beach Wrestling Trio to Compete in Fire-Police Olympics

Wayne Hoffman, Luis Palacio and Steve Echevaria join games at Jacob Javits Center.

Three members of the Long Beach-USA Wrestling Club will represent the United States at the World Fire and Police Olympics in New York City at the Jacob Javits Center.

Luis Palacio, Steve Echevaria, and Wayne Hoffman will compete at the games on Aug. 28.

Palacio, a member of the Long Beach Fire Department, was a standout wrestler for Long Beach in the 1980’s. He was a Nassau County Champion and All-State wrestler.

Hoffman was also a standout wrestler for the Marines, earning All-County honors in 2000. He is now a member of the New York State Troopers.

Echevaria, a North Carolina high school state champion, is also a member of the Long Beach Fire Department and is the nephew of Luis Palacio and Long Beach coach Leo Palacio.
