Loop Parkway Bridge Reopened After Getting Stuck

Loop Parkway Bridge gets stuck in the upright position during afternoon rush.

The Loop Parkway Bridge malfunctioned Wednesday afternoon and got stuck in the upright position, according to Nassau County Police.

Cops released an alert just before 5 p.m. Wednesday that the bridge connecting the Meadowbrook State Parkway and Point Lookout malfunctioned.

True Lear Jet, but my thinking was a little more cynical. I meant that now since Long Beach reportedly has our own Heroin dealers, the "buying" traffic could run both ways. I'm sure there's less chance of getting busted here than in Queens for buying/possession. It's scary to think what the "bar scene" could be in some of our low-life bars this summer. I also remember the common site of one "kid" riding on to a second bike- used to see it a lot by the train station. There was another old frequent sight down west here. Young white kids would take the N33 bus to Far Rock, then reappear back here pretty quick. It used to be so *obvious* why well-off white kids would want to go on little excursions to Far Rock. I haven't seen that in a while. I guess there's a plentiful supply of drugs here without going over the bridge.

In the 60's and 70's both LB taxi companies did a land office biz shuttling junkies to and from Far Rock where they were copping. OD cases were dumped on the tiny lawn outside LB Hospital where the staff scooped them up and saved their lives. What we're seeing now is a revival. Older generation found out about hard dope the hard way, now the young ones are doing the same thing. In the bad old days there were heroin dealers operating in LB too. Cops should be working much harder on hard drug enforcement and leave Pot alone--it wastes valuable police assets and harms no one the way hard dope does. I'm repeating myself here but it's important: 88,000 americans die each year from alcohol, 11,000 of them die at the hands of drunk drivers. Tobacco kills 40,000, POT KILLS ZERO.

How has it been so many years and this bridge isn't completely fixed yet? And shouldn't there be a cop or a sign redirecting traffic, long before we get to this broken piece of junk? When it happens during the morning commute, it would save everyone the 20 minute round trip!!
