A man was shot on the streets of North Park in Long Beach late Saturday evening, when more than 30 bullets were fired and several homes and cars hit.

Follow Long Beach Patch on Facebook.

According to Long Beach Police Department, at about 11:55 p.m. on Nov. 2, officers received a call about a male subject that had been shot, and on arrival at the scene they found a man lying in the road outside 1 Sycamore Ct., located about two blocks behind LBPD headquarters and City Hall.

“Officers attempted to get information from those individuals standing nearby but they all claimed to have seen nothing,” the LBPD said in a statement about the incident that was released at about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The officers that responded to the scene transported the male subject to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police stated. Lt. Eric Cregeen, an LBPD spokesman, told Patch that the subject was a 26-year-old male from Inwood.

After LBPD established a crime scene, police discovered multiple shell casings of varying calibers in the roadway at National Boulevard and West Fulton Street, which is in the area of where the wounded man was found.

“Two rifles believed to be used in the incident were recovered on West Fulton Street,” the police stated.

Cregeen told Patch the 31 shell cases were recovered, and that during the shooting two cars and two homes were hit with bullets, but no one was injured.

The LBPD notified Nassau County Police Department and detectives responded to the scene. “The police currently have a person of interest and the investigation is ongoing at this time,” Long Beach police stated.

Asked about the person of interest, or any other suspect or suspects that may have been involved in the shooting, Cregeen said that there is only one subject at this time but the investigation remains open.

“We can only confirm one person shot and that was the person we found in front of 1 Sycamore Court,” he said.

The police statement said that LBPD Commissioner Michael Tangney “would like to remind residents that while shootings are dramatically down and overall crime is down 12 percent, we still need the public to be vigilant and immediately call 911 to report suspicious activity.”

In the Media, everything is an Assault Rifle, 2 or more Firearms is an Arsenal. The days of trusting Media reporting are long over. Example, the LAX Airport shooting was reported as an AR15, it was a Ruger Ranch Rifle and CNN reported that the shooter had 3 " Magazine Clips". Impossible to report accurately when the Media refuses to spend 5 minutes on Wikipedia educating themselves. As for the above event, this is exactly the type of thing that Gov. Cuomo said would not happen if he passed the SAFE Act. The Gang Bangers, Drug Dealers, Home Invaders and Muggers, still have their normal capacity magazines and Military style rifles and the tax paying, working, home owners who want to protect themselves and their families against the above crinimals are now at a major disadvantage in an encounter. Shocking that the crinimals are not following the SAFE Act. Excuse me while I go hope for the best and sand bang the front of the house.

I like the idea of prayers and hand holding. That should work to scare away the armed gangsters. And something tells me its not all "outsiders" doing the shooting. The residents there may be shielding some of the perpetrators.

Probably one of the "new neighbors" brought into Long Beach from Hemstead by the Democrats. "Freedom of Housing," they say. This is what you get. You elected these scumbags, so take what you asked for. And the stupid tools in North Park voted for the people who are importing the shooters. Low intellect tools.
Laura November 06, 2013 at 02:41 PM
These mutants in North Park think its cool to have a Gangsta as a son or neighbor. They look forward to the day that Raheem becomes a rap star. The police, and of course White people are all evil. One notch above retards.
Lloyd November 06, 2013 at 02:46 PM
Like my aunt just told me the other day when I admitted supporting Ed Mangano, she said, "All Republicans are disgusting pigs". So I guess she considers me one. Thats how my whole family talks, except me. Its pathetic. They are getting screwed here and don't care.
Laura November 06, 2013 at 03:15 PM
They live in small circles and have no connection with outsiders. They still think it's 1963 and Kennedy represents the Democrats. City Hall is laughing at the morons in North Park today after counting their votes. They'll buy them a few more basketballs for the MLK Center.
Lloyd November 06, 2013 at 05:19 PM
Yes. The Dem. politicians show up every late October to buy some votes. Maybe even replace a few torn basketball nets and speak at a candlelight vigil. Then the community votes 99% for them and nothing else is done for the next 11 months. Unless I missed something, where were all the Black faces running for City Council? They might as well have voted for the White Republicans. It couldn't get any worse for them.

still no arrest ? Tangney must go
Lloyd November 07, 2013 at 02:08 PM
Has anybody addressed the question of why those shooters were in that community in the first place? Supposedly they travelled all the way from Inwood. They even had to pay $2.00 in tolls each way. So I'm sure they were there for a very specific purpose...to take revenge out on other gang members or drug dealers. So there are some guilty parties living in that community too and residents must cooperate and identify ALL those involved. Otherwise this crap will never end.
Eddie November 07, 2013 at 02:43 PM
I'm sure they used their EBT cards to ride the N32 and N33 Bus for free from Inwood and Far Rockaway. I'm sure Eramo and his friends at ACORN set them up with that.
Lloyd November 07, 2013 at 03:00 PM
No. Busses are too slow and infrequent. A stolen car is more efficient for a quick getaway. Ya think they had a 20 trip Pass Card for the bridge or just drove through the gates?
Lloyd November 07, 2013 at 03:11 PM
I'm a conservative guy who just finds it astonishing that there are NO Blacks whatsoever in any positions of power in the City of Long Beach. Who's fault is that? I am surrounded by Far Left libs here who talk the talk, but when it comes down to giving equal rights and respect to our Black neighbors, they come up with every excuse in the book. They want the Blacks to stay "over there", locked in between the railroad tracks and industrial park, with no say in the government, schools, or police dept. Am I off base here ?
Lloyd November 07, 2013 at 04:00 PM
Can't say I did, Laura. But I do own a Temptations and a Stevie Wonder Greatest Hits CD and I did see Jimi Hendrix play live years ago. Oh yeah! I do honor Martin Luther King Day by going skiing in Vermont. So thats about as Liberal as I get, Laura dear.

freedom of speech I guess, like MLK championed? Right? Or does that just apply to you? Loser? I dont have to beg the Dems to pay for me to live in a that gets shot up every month. Whos the loser?

There is something frighteningly wrong: A shooting occurs in town on Saturday night (Nov 2nd), nothing reported to media until Monday (Nov 4th). Police Commissioner notes that shootings are down (how many have there actually been for that remark? Plus, one shooting is too many). The City Manager and Aux PC accuse people of “stoking fear” before Election Day for speaking out about a dangerous incident (seriously?). Report from PC that one of the gunmen (already on parole) will get an ankle bracelet and is barred from LB (boy I bet that will scare the criminals away). What a cluster f**k! So, concerned citizens who voice their opinion and outrage regarding a matter as serious as gun violence are “stoking fear “? CM and AuxPC sound like a bunch of spoiled, petulant kids instead of being outraged and demanding better leadership (new leadership?) from a person who’s salary is more than the NY City Police Commissioner. These guys seem to forget that they work for us! We pay a hell of a lot in taxes to fund their salaries and many benefits and I feel my tax dollars are definitely not being well spent. They should be directing their energy towards being able to make the following statement – “Because of the due diligence and efforts in crime prevention by our police department, there have been NO shootings in the City of Long Beach in years!”
tom brennan November 09, 2013 at 11:31 AM
still no arrest? or did he just get a bracelet and told DONT COME BACK TO LONG BEACH OR YOU WILL BE IN BIG TROUBLE
ethel sauzerman November 10, 2013 at 07:30 AM
I didn't realize that LBPD was paid that much!!! Had I known both my sons would have taken the tests instead of being dentists. They may not be that tough but they are much more honest and reliable than some of the shmendriks walking a beat now.
Lloyd November 10, 2013 at 08:36 AM
Not only that, but these schlemiels have a much better pension and retirement plan than any dentist in this country. Some of our cops have even received windfalls of over $1 million when they walked out the door. And it wasn't as hard as pulling teeth.
Archy Bunka November 10, 2013 at 11:55 PM
Unbelievable. A shooting happens a block away from our over paid police force, no one is caught and the news isn't released until 2 days later? These pensions will run this town bankrupt. Who decides how much these schmucks walk away with?
Will Doodus November 11, 2013 at 12:24 AM
Archy: If you are too dumb to figure out who decides what the cops are paid then you are dumber than we think. YOU decide when you vote dummy.
ed November 11, 2013 at 09:06 PM
Archy pensions come from the state....get a clue.
tom brennan November 14, 2013 at 09:08 PM
