Man Gets 25 to Life for Brutal Stabbing

A man convicted of stabbing another man and trying to hide the evidence received his prison sentencing Monday, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.

Henry Martinez-Ramos, 26, of Freeport, was ordered to spend 25 years to life in prison by Judge Teresa Corrigan. Martinez-Ramos was convicted in May of second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

“This defendant’s utter disregard for human life is clear from the brutality of his crime and the multiple injuries he inflicted upon his victim,” said NCDA Kathleen Rice. “I am pleased that this sentence will mean he will no longer be able to pose a threat to anyone on our streets for a long time to come.”

In October 2012, Martinez-Ramos stabbed 21-year-old Ermis Alonzo, of Freeport, 86 times during a fight on one-way Bennington Avenue in Freeport, said the DA. Martinez-Ramos then dragged the victim to nearby train tracks and covered the body in railroad ties to hide the evidence, officials reported.

The victim and Martinez-Ramos had a long history of altercations before their final argument, said Freeport Police.

The stabbing happened on Bennington Avenue in Freeport, reported Long Island Press. A homeless man had been found dead earlier that year in the same area, said the report.
