Update: Cops ID Man Struck, Killed in Long Beach Friday

Pedestrian struck and killed early Friday morning on East Park Avenue.

Police have identified the man who was struck by a car and died Friday in Long Beach.

Sean McCarthy, 50, of Long Beach, was struck by an oncoming car driven by an unidentified 60-year-old man, reported Nassau County Police. The car, a 1988 Chevrolet Corvette, was heading west on Park Avenue as McCarthy was walking near Maple Boulevard, cops said.

The accident happened at 5:50 a.m. Friday, officials confirmed.

McCarthy suffered "serious head injuries" and was rushed to South Nassau Communities Hospital for emergency treatment, police reported. Hospital staff pronounced him dead at 8:57 a.m.

Detectives said they do not suspect any criminality and impounded the vehicle for brake tests.
