Police: Cab Driver Robbed in Long Beach


A cab driver in Long Beach reports that he was robbed while on duty in the North Park neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, a male subject flagged down a cab driver at Rev. J.J. Evans Boulevard and East Hudson Street and inquired about an address in Island Park, after which the subject pulled a handgun and told the driver to “open the door,” entered the back of the cab, and demanded money at about 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 26.

The cab driver said he gave the suspect $200 in cash and started to drive eastbound on East Hudson toward Long Beach Boulevard. When the cab reached the area of Riverside Boulevard the subject exited the vehicle and fled through the yards of homes on East Fulton Street. The cab driver reported that his dispatcher notified the Long Beach police.

The suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion, approximately 18 to 21 years old, approximately 5'7" to 5'8" tall, and wearing a shiny, puffy purple down jacket.
