Police: Long Beach Men Robbed Woman at Knifepoint

The suspects were apprehended by a police and a MTA K-9 officer.

Two Long Beach men were arrested Tuesday night after allegedly robbing a woman at knifepoint in Island Park.

According to Nassau County detectives, a 21-year-old woman was walking home on Long Beach Road onto the Arlington Walk Way when she was approached by two males that both displayed knives and demanded that she hand over her pocketbook at 11:55 p.m.

The two males, Rakim Cole, 20, and Kaic Santos, 18, both of Long Beach, took the pocketbook, which contained an undetermined amount of cash, and left the alleyway, police said.

A short time later, Nassau County Police and a MTA K-9 officer were able to apprehend and arrest both suspects, police said. All proceeds were recovered.

There were no injuries reported.

Cole was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.

Santos was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.

Both defendants will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.

Maybe someone should use a knife to relieve them of their two "bags"?

With the taxes in Long Beach skyrocketing, I guess some people are more desperate now than ever before.

I'm sure it was the schools fault.

Now if the woman had a weapon and used in self defense we would charge her with attempted murder aswell?

You guys wouldn't be joking if this was your girl, wife, sister, mother or grandma that got robbed. Island Park residents had better wake up! Take a look around, see what's hanging by the train station all day?

Who's joking? I was dead serious.

Self defense?
Citzen//Taxpayer May 23, 2012 at 08:24 PM
Well, if she injured "the pranksters" (LOL) she could be charged with Excessive Force. Did they express intent to harm and if she injured them after they took her bag than they could question her motive. We all know how twisted criminal court can become. I was happy to read she was physically unharmed and the creeps were caught. It is a terrifying experience and good job MTA K9 Officer.

U r right LB Taxpaya, they did get nailed. Unfortunately their Public Defender Atty will plea it down to 26th degree petty larcency and they will walk. Isn't anyone else concerned with the sudden rise in violent crimes in LB? Or is it just me?

At over $30,000 per student...let's see these two 'honor' students along with the four LB train station students... when they go to jail, will be a school savings of over $180,000. Keep up the good work and they will be able to reduce our school taxes.

I agree with Pete and great job officer
