Police: Man Robs Oceanside Bank, Flees in Taxi

Astoria Bank on Long Beach Road is hit on Friday afternoon, police say.

A man robbed an Astoria Bank in Oceanside on Friday afternoon, police said. 

According to police, the man pictured above entered the bank at 3535 Long Beach Road at 1:20 p.m. and handed a female teller a note demanding cash. 

The teller complied and the robber fled with an unknown amount of cash into a waiting taxi, which dropped him off at Clive Avenue in Oceanside, police said.

The taxi driver was unaware that the man had just robbed the bank, police said.

The robber is described as white, 5-foot-7, 35-40 years old, balding with blond hair, a mustache and glasses. He was wearing a black T-shirt with white writing, blue jeans and sneakers at the time of the robbery, police said.

There were 13 employees and two customers inside the bank at the time of the robbery and there were no injuries reported, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
