Woman Pleads Guilty to Stealing $250K from Boss
Former bookkeeper faces 15 years in prison after forging checks for five years to pay personal expenses, according to DA.

An Atlantic Beach woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing more than $250,000 from her boss, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.
Doreen Goucher, 62, of of Atlantic Beach, was working as a bookkeeper for an architect and forged her boss' signature on checks, reported the DA. Between June 2006 and December 2011, Goucher forged 116 checks totaling $258,731 of company funds and used the money to pay off her personal expenses, the DA reported.

Goucher "disguised the thefts by creating unauthorized personal credit and loan accounts" according to the DA's office, and used the money to pay off home equity loans and fund dinners, shopping trips, and vacations.
Goucher was fired in December 2011 after 14 years with the office.

After an internal audit revealed discrepancies in company finances, evidence was turned over to the district attorney's office for investigation in January 2012.
Goucher pleaded guilty to second-degree larceny before Judge Valerie Alexander in Nassau County District Court. She is due to be sentenced Jan. 22, 2014.
