Additional Assessment Relief Authorized for Sandy Victims

Legislation has been adopted to authorize assessment relief for nearly 3,000 properties impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The Town of Hempstead is now a “participating municipality” in the Superstorm Sandy Assessment Relief Act, a New York State program, which provides assessment relief for residents whose homes suffered at least 50 percent damage. Iavarone Bros. Founder Dies

A beloved founder of a Long Island staple in gourmet Italian food, Joseph Iavarone, died Sunday in Garden City. He was 88 years old. Iavarone was the head of Iavarone Bros., an Italian gourmet business started by his father, Pasquale, in New York City after he emigrated from Italy in 1919. Adelphi's Nexus Building Construction Begins

Construction is officially underway on Adelphi University's campus for a nearly 100,000 square foot two- and three-story building that will house the new School of Nursing and Public Health, as well as dedicated space for, among other things, alumni relations, admissions, career services and simulation labs to be made available to regional healthcare partners for professional development.
