Aircraft Noise Abatement Committee Hosts August Meeting

TVASNAC encourages all local residents concerned about airplane noise to attend.

Residents concerned about airplane noise and its impact on local communities may want to attend the Town Village Aircraft Safety and Noise Abatement Committee meeting next Monday.

TVASNAC — which includes representatives from Long Beach, Atlantic Beach, Cedarhurst, East Williston, Floral Park, Garden City, Hewlett Harbor, Malverne,
Inwood, Lawrence, New Hyde Park, Stewart Manor, Valley Stream, and Woodsburgh — will hold its monthly meeting on Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stewart Manor Country Club, at 51 Salisbury Ave., in Stewart Manor.

While the Federal Aviation Administration and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are invited to attend the meeting and participate in all TVASNAC meetings, the focus of next week's meeting will be to understand the benefits and challenges of conducting a Part150 study.

The invited speaker is Henry A.F. Young of Young Environmental Sciences, Inc., an Aviation Consultant from Manhasset. F.A.R. Part 150 is a voluntary program that U.S. airports may undertake to seek a balance between their operational needs and the noise impacts their operations have on surrounding neighborhoods.

The TVASNAC, sponsored by the Town of Hempstead, regularly meets in the village of Lawrence but has elected to host meetings in interested communities to give residents an opportunity to hear issues and voice comments and complaints. This will be the first time the Village of Stewart Manor will host a meeting of TVASNAC.

if we complain enough, they will shift the flight patterns again so that they go back to flying over floral park, etc.

This is a pointless arguement. Planes need to take off and land, PERIOD. Long Beach has been in the final approach for JFK since the 60's and the planes are way quieter now. This is just another thing for yuppies to complain about. It's only a matter of time before they band together and start a lawsuit against Boeing.

MY EXACT THOUGHTS - if people had to travel somewhere secluded to fly in and out of - they would complain as well. when you buy your home you should be well aware of the surroundings...

According to the previous commenters, we should then, let the planes fly over our head's top and remain silent in our conversations for the duration of the plane's passing and since we knew we were in a landing planes path, we should just enjoy the noise. Fly patterns and hours of use can be shifted to spread the noise around. Don't be noisy fools.

It's not the planes that make the noise, it's the Helicopters that fly over the beach, probably heading to the Hamptons for the weekend. There is no reason why they can't fly further out over the ocean.

actually it is the planes landing and taking off from LGA and JFK that so many towns complain of - only us on the beach hear the helicopters. With so many airlines flying to so many places for peoples employment and enjoyment etc. how much more can you change around flight patterns and times?? there are only 24 hours in a day-come on.

This is a waste of time and money- dont live near an airport if you want quiet. The bigger problem is the stupid and unnecessary advertising airplanes hauling banners over the beach, ground those planes.
