Do Red Light Cameras Actually INCREASE Safety, or do they cause an INCREASE in collisions?

 You state that red light cameras increase safety.
I have read that , in reality, Red light cameras have, in fact, resulted
in an increase in accidents at intersections, as drivers stop short to avoid
red light tickets.and are rear ended. I would have to see statistical studies
to know if red light cameras increase or decrease safety.
I have also read-and again, I would need to see the facts- that municipalities
have decreased yellow light times, to maximize red light tickets and the revenue
they generate.
While it can be argued-and some have made this argument-that if one does
not speed, one does not have anything to worry about, what matters in the end
is whether red light cameras increase or decrease safety.
 I don't speed, and did receive a red light ticket in Oceanside. I am now more
likely to stop short and be rear-ended.I have encountered road rage of drivers who are behind me when I  am driving the speed limit, who often increase
speed-tailing me- to try to force me to increase speed.Drivers often drive 
around those driving the speed limit,dangerously switching lanes to get around the person driving the speed limit.
