Mt. Sandy is gone and is now back on the beach. This morning the huge mound of sand that was at the end of Long Beach Rd. has been completely sifted and placed back on our beach! Now its time for the Boardwalk repair!

Remember to vote out the GOP in 2014 that withheld the sandy relief.
get em out or they will kill FEMA and FEMA Flood Insurance.
Eddie February 21, 2013 at 04:12 pm
I wish they would kill flood insurance. Nothing but a Ponzi scheme where you'll be charged $9700 to provide benefits for your neighbors who don't pay a penny. Typical Socialist Democrat taxation and welfare.
Good Girl February 21, 2013 at 04:59 pm
Not sure who was responsible for all the sand collection, sifting and replacing, but kudos to all the crew who worked night and day through some bitter cold and windy weather to get this done! I say we need more workers like them to finish the job!
Tonto Hertzberg February 21, 2013 at 05:26 pm
Eddie:
Put the GOP in charge of Congress in 2014 and you better believe they will kill FEMA. There are MANY GOP voters in LB that are coming to the realization that they are F**KED if the GOP gets to call the shots after 2014. Thank you for making my point, in spades.

Was the sand tested for toxins? I find it hard to believe that it wasn't contaminated. How would I go about finding this information out?
Elliot Zuckerman February 22, 2013 at 06:24 am
Rebecca odds are it was but its sand and it will clean itself I would be more worried about the streets and all the crap that is being thrown on to the streets, moldy sheetrock seems to litter the entire area and to many people just throwing it on the sidewalk hopping the city will pick it up, for free. That a much larger problem than the beach sand, I paid for a dumpster and so should everyone else that has huge demo.
Have you nothing how many people in LB and the surrounding areas are sick, having problems breathing? And goodgirl I agree with you, a great job sifting and cleaning it.
awesome February 22, 2013 at 09:09 am
Rebecca yes and it was fine.
Elliot I agree with you completely re: "all the crap that is being thrown on to the streets, moldy sheetrock seems to litter the entire area and to many people just throwing it on the sidewalk hopping the city will pick it up, for free" This debris is going right back into our waterways.
Elliot Zuckerman February 22, 2013 at 01:15 pm
I wonder why the city is not giving out summons to these people that odds are insurance is paying for the removal?I see so many people with dumpsters in front of their houses and two houses down all the moldy crappy stuff in piled on the sidewalk?
awesome February 22, 2013 at 03:35 pm
Elliot it is really gross that these violations continue four months later. So many people are willing to show up to boardwalk focus groups and to rebuild private businesses meanwhile our environment dwindles. And we consider ourselves a beach town? Far from it.
anonymous February 22, 2013 at 03:35 pm
I don't know about where you guys are but the beach by Tennessee Avenue is full of garbage. Asphalt, broken metal fences and just plain garbage are everywhere. Now that they have sifted through the Mt. Sandy sand can they start on the areas that are strewn with garbage?
awesome February 22, 2013 at 03:39 pm
^ are you kidding? on the beach?? Four months later? Long Beach is officially slob central.

While I agree there seem to be problems in the LB school district, I'm not sure this takes intoRead More account the financial reasons for opting for NCCC. For many families finances, not academic performance dictates the college. I think a more meaningful number would be the percentage of graduating seniors attending ANY college.

Bottom line re: LIRR is that people in suburbs who ride LIRR and Metro North are paying to subsidizeRead More the bankrupt NYC Subways and subsidize minority riders in the outer boros. Its the price we pay to not live in NYC. The subways charges a cheap fixed fare to subsidize low income NYC residents. Its a form of socialism.
