Titled “Solving the Puzzle: Parenting in the Age of Social Media,” the session is open to the public at the Long Beach Library, 111 W. Park Ave., at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23.

“All are welcome to attend this discussion and information session about negotiating the complex, potentially dangerous and constantly changing world of social media,” reads an announcement about the event posted on the district’s website.

Long Beach Middle School psychologist Dr. Jean Schlegel and Long Beach Middle School social worker Glenn Gartung will facilitate the discussion.

Superintendent David Weiss announced the event at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting at Middle School.

“This was something put together by the middle school psychologist and social workers, to address the issue of how do we deal with kids who have access to social media and are in constant contact with their friendship groups, both for good and bad.,” Weiss said. “It is a real change in how to deal as a parent with the situations that arise.”
