Smartest Students Map: North Over South, But New York Only Average

A new map comparing achievement test scores from public school students ranked New York as average compared to the rest of the country.

The test score comparison by FindTheBest gave New York a 3.89 out of 5.0 on student performance.

The map compared data provided by state education departments from all 50 states to rank student performance based on SAT, ACT, AP and NAEP scores.

Virginia, Maine and Maryland ranked similarly to New York, scoring between 3.77 and 3.86.

The states with the highest student test scores were New Hampshire (5.0), Minnesota (4.92), Massachusetts (4.92) and Wisconsin (4.75).

States bordering New York ranked slightly better with New Jersey scoring a 4.74, Vermont a 4.68 and Connecticut a 4.82.

According to the map, states in the South scored the lowest. Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida all ranked between 2.97 and 3.0.
