Long Beach Football Falls in Playoff Opener

Tom McAndrew ran for 319 yards and three touchdowns to lead MacArthur High School (5-4) past Long Beach High School (5-4) 28-21 Friday night.

McAndrew's three scores gave MacArthur a 21-0 lead, but Chris Parler added two of his own to cut the lead to 21-14.

Kelleher added a touchdown of his own for MacArthur to raise the lead to 28-14, but Long Beach would not go quietly, as Parler took a Generals' fumble back 44 yards to cut the deficit to seven.

That's as close as they'd come.

MacArthur now awaits the winner of Carey and South Side, who are facing off in the opening round. The Generals' next game will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hofstra University.
