Long Beach Native Excels in Tennis at Wake Forest

Danny Kreyman, a junior, will be heading with his team to the ACC Championships.

In his third season with the Wake Forest University men’s tennis team, junior Danny Kreyman, a Long Beach native, continues to assist his team in both doubles and singles, while keeping up with his classes as an economics major.

He will head with his team to the ACC Championships, according to Wake Forest University’s newspaper, The Old Gold and Black. Kreyman takes the top two singles positions, in addition to his doubles play with sophomore partner Adam Lee.

He was initially drawn to Wake Forest because of its academic reputation and “better athletic competition.” Wanting to attend a strong academic school, Kreyman said that tennis helped him “get into a better school than my grades alone.”

Kreyman added his opinion on how tennis is different than other sports at the university:

“Tennis is an individual sport, but at the same time the program isn’t successful unless the team wins. Each match, no matter which position you play, is worth the same so you can’t rely on one person to get the team a win like you can in other sports.”

According to The Old Gold and Black, Kreyman said that this season has been more difficult than his previous two, due to the fact that four of the team’s seniors graduated last year. He added that they “have a lot to built on for next year.”
