Long Beach Woman a Winner at Jones Beach Run

More than 3,000 registered 5K runners take part in annual Long Island State Parks Summers Series event.

Long Beach resident Melissa Moschetto was the first runner in the female 30 to 34 age group to cross the finish line at the Long Island State Parks Summer Series run at Jones Beach.

More than 3,000 registered runners and some 3,500 to 4,000 spectators attended the annual run on Monday evening. The run was originally scheduled to be 5 miles but was reduced to a 5K (3.1 miles) because of the chance of rain. Awards were presented to the three male and female finishers in various age groups.

Riley Masters was the top male finisher crossing the finish line in 15 minutes. Stephanie Braun was the top female finisher.

The race began at Parking Field #5 next to Zach's Bay.
