Palacio Wins Battle of Undefeated

Long Beach wrestling standout pins counterpart from New Jersey.


The match featured two undefeated state champions and the wrestler from Long Beach emerged victories.

Dylan Palacio, the Long Beach senior wracked up a 41-0 record and won a Division I state wrestling title last month, pinned undefeated New Jersey state champion Raamiah Bethea of Trenton Central at the New York / New Jersey All-Star Wrestling Challenge at Clarkstown South High on Sunday.

Wrestling at 152 pounds, Palacio had the only pin and earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors as the Long Island contingent went 5-1 and New York held on for the 27-23 win, according to Newsday. Palacio said:

"I got the rush before the match. I knew the match would be straight doubles, everything he had. I have great defense. We fought and fought, and it was one of the best matches of the day."

Last month, Palacio won an 11-4 decision over Half Hollow Hills West’s Tyler Grimaldi in the 160-pound Division I state final at Times Union Center in Albany.
