East End Volleyball Addresses Possible Season

(Editor's Note: This letter was emailed to the East End Volleyball League members and is being reprinted here with the author's approval.)

We fully expect that there will be a Long Beach league. They just have other more important things to worry about right now. I expect they will get around to VB in late March once they know who is rebuilding the boardwalk and how it is progressing.

I will be in touch with the city during this process and will let you know as soon as I hear anything from them. The city’s goal is to get everything back to normal as soon as possible and they are working very hard to do that right now. They are having the Polar Bear swim on Super Bowl weekend and they adjusted to the boardwalk demolition by moving the swim to Grand Ave at the park of the boardwalk that has already been taken down.

I expect them to make similar adjustments for other beach activities as the summer approaches. Any decision about the exact details of the summer league would be total speculation right now until we see how the beach builds back up, what happens with any beach reconstruction from money just approved by the Federal Government and again how the boardwalk looks.

But I would be very surprised if they decided not to allow the league this year because it is very popular, would show that things are back to normal and it raises a lot of money for the city. I expect that we will start as we always do at the end of May and that we will have a big weekend tournament for all levels of volleyball to raise funds to help rebuild the boardwalk.

So stayed tuned and be patient.
