That is not true. Pageants open a door for girls/woman to speak out and help out. There are manyRead More different types of pageants to chose from. Not all are about beauty alone. Miss Long Island 1997 Also a Lupus and domestic violence Survivor

We should be teaching our daughters to love and respect themselves and pageants do not do that.Read More Feel like a queen? How about a judge or an architect? As the mother of a disabled daughter, I am appalled by this.

When a not for profit has a top dog making 600,000+ there is something wrong. How is thatRead More justified? It is hard to support a cause that less than 10% goes to help people. it is broke. Just like Washington. Or should i say broken? Or both?

Years ago, when we lived up the island, the Red Cross was at the scene immediately of a bigRead More apartment building fire in our complex, to help people who escaped the blaze in the middle of the night in freezing cold February. People were shuttled into other building lobbies, and the Red Cross, along with EMT staff, helped with blankets, food, medical care, and relocating for the night as well as providing information on What Next. So I think they do a great job to help in a crisis.

SHOCK AND DISMAY! Yesterday afternoon, my boyfriend and I decided to go for a walk on the JonesRead More Beach boardwalk. Eventually, we arrived at the dedication site, for those who had been lost to breast cancer. We were both touched by the hope given by the walk but were unfortunately, absolutely shocked and dismayed by the hundreds of empty bottles thrown, mainly in the vicinity of the dedication site, however, also, in other locations on and around the beach. There were stickers, papers, ribbons and bows totally and utterly littering the beach and surrounds. As genuine lovers of pristine parklands, my boyfriend and I spent considerable time and effort, cleaning up the area and filling bins with the irresponsibly discarded empty and full water bottles, etc. The total and utter lack of both garbage and recycling facilities, coupled with the general public's 100% inappropriate actions toward the surrounding environment, was simply disgusting and totally unacceptable. An area, usually filled with the wonders of aesthetics and nature, was now an extremely polluted dumping ground. The most ironic part of this story, is the fact that one of the leading causes of cancer is caused through the inhalation and digestion of PCB's, that are leached from plastic water bottles, when subjected to SUNLIGHT, heat and cold, such as being placed in the freezer. So, there they were, the residual effects of the dedication, leaching out the dangerous chemicals, from lying all morning and afternoon, in the heat of the day's sun. Surely there is an all encompassing and mutually responsible way to show our dedication/respects, that does not absolutely cause havoc and mayhem, in it's wake. Preventative steps simply MUST be taken to immediately halt such devastation, in the aftermath of ANY cause. Catherine Tatlock

There are many drivers of all ages who should not be licensed. Why not just pass a law that if youRead More cause X number of accidents or accumulate X amount of trafffic violations you loose your drivers license. You will need enforcement to remove the unlicensed operators from the road with jail time for violators. You would be addressing the persons ability to safely operate a vehicle instead of discriminating based on age.
