City Council Agenda for May 7: Budget Hearing, Beach Fixing

Meeting set for Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Long Beach City Council will hold a regular meeting at City Hall, 1 W. Chester St., starting at 7 p.m. May 7. The following is the agenda:

PUBLIC HEARING: For the purpose of giving citizens an adequate opportunity to publicly present their views on the General Summary of the Proposed Budget for Year July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.

1. Resolution Setting May 21, 2013 for the Public Hearing of the General Summary of the Capital Improvement Program for the Next Five Years.

6. Resolution Fixing and Providing for the 2013 Season of the Ocean Beach Park.

Legislative Memo: The Ocean Beach Park will be open as it normally is every summer season. There will be beach goers sunning and swimming, lifeguards on duty, surfers surfing, volley ballers playing, ticket takers working and police specials patrolling. Beach pass prices remain unchanged.

7. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Extend the License for Surf and Water Safety Instruction with Skudin Surf, Inc.

8. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into a Contract for Sanitary Sewer Replacement at the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant from the Lowest Responsible Bidder.

Legislative Memo: This repair will replace 54 linear feet of failing sanitary sewer pipe that has outlived its useful purpose. Funds are available in the Capital line.
9. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into a Contract for Emergency Repairs at the Grinder Pump Stations with the Lowest Responsible Bidder.

Legislative Memo: As a result of Superstorm Sandy, the grinder pump stations were destroyed by the storm surge. The function of the grinder pump stations is to connect sewer service to the public restrooms at the Ocean Beach Park in order for them to function. This summer temporary rental bathrooms will be connected. Next summer newly built permanent bathrooms will be connected. Funding is being requested through public assistance grant monies from FEMA.

10. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Award the Contract for the Rental of 20 Yard Roll-Off Containers and Disposal of Contents to the Lowest Responsible Bidder.

Legislative Memo: This contract was originally awarded in December 2012. The lowest responsible bidder at the time failed to execute the contract with the City and accordingly their award was withdrawn. The next lowest responsible bidder is now being awarded the contract.

11. Resolution Authorizing Publication of a Notice of Public Hearing of an Application to Waive the Off-Street Parking Requirements for Premises: 58A East Park Avenue (street floor), Long Beach, New York. Re: Tattoo and Art Gallery
