Nearly Mile Of New Boardwalk Completed

A one-block section of the new walkway opened Friday.

Another one-block section of the Long Beach boardwalk, from west of Laurelton Boulevard to east of Lafayette Boulevard, was opened to the public Friday, extending the newly built Brazilian hardwood structure to nearly a mile, according to the City of Long Beach.

This new stretch follows the opening of the original four-block section, from Long Beach to Magnolia boulevards, in late July.

Grace Industries, the Plainview firm hired to rebuild the 2.2-mile boardwalk, is contracted to complete the entire structure in November, at a cost of $44.2 million.
