According to the LBPD, police officers recovered four illegal assault weapons, four illegal handguns, two shotguns, 38 large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and more than 4,700 rounds of ammunition, as defined by penal law, and a quantity of fireworks from the Gobic's East Market Street home, Lt. Eric Cregeen, an LBPD spokesman, told Patch.

The official charges are one count of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor; two counts of second-degree possession of a loaded assault weapon; one count of second-degree criminal possession of five or more firearms; two counts of criminal possession of an assault weapon; 38 counts of third-degree criminal possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device; seven counts of criminal possession of a firearm; and one count of third-degree criminal sale of a firearm, all felonies.

“One of the four illegal handguns is also considered an assault weapon and some of the guns were recovered loaded,” LBPD Commissioner Michael Tangney said the statement about the arrest.

“The defendant is believed to have brought these assault weapons, large capacity ammunition feeding devices and handguns to New York from the state of Florida around July of this year,” he added.

Tangney said that Gobic was originally charged for criminal obstruction of breathing for a “situation,” details of which were not provided in the press release about the arrest. But Cregeen told Patch that at 6:03 p.m. Oct. 25, officers responded to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and East Market Street for a report of a disturbance. Officers met up with the complainant at Mobile gas station, at 203 E. Park Ave., and Gobic in front of a home on the 200 block of East Chester Street. The complainant said she and the Gobic got into an argument and he grabbed her by the neck and began to choke her, causing her to struggle to breath, Cregeen said.

“The follow up investigation lead to the recovery of this arsenal of illegal weapons and ammunition feeding devices,” Tangney said. “New York has very intricate and serious gun laws, which this defendant has violated many of.”
