Joel Levy, 16, is charged with making a terrorist threat and second-degree aggravated harassment after his threat to blow up Mesivta Ateres Yaakov in Lawrence, leading to the evacuation of the building and surrounding streets on Tuesday.

Specifically, Levy’s threat was directed at the assistant principal of the school, Rabbi Yossi Bennett, who suspended him.

According to court records, the post read: "I wouldnt suggest going to skool for the rest of the week. Considering i got a lot of plans involving all kinds of explosives, lighter fluid And all kinds of dangerous flammable items ... Dont believe me? Then you'll find out the hard way. I am mainly blowing up bennets office."

Levy has been freed on $50,000 bond, according to Newsday.

Ateres Yaakov Executive Director Richard Miller told Newsday that the school does not want to press charges against Levy, an 11th grader, but he’s not coming back to the school.

The paper further reported:

“In the statement to police — [Defense attorney Stanley] Kopilow said detectives improperly questioned the teen — Levy described wanting to put a nail through Bennett's shoes, bind and torture him, pull out his nails and maim him, ‘and tell him to have fun in hell.’”
