Photos: Storm-battered Long Beach Months Into Recovery

Scenes from the city five months after the major storm.

Last week marked five months since Hurricane Sandy barreled into Long Beach, causing substantial destruction from which the city will remain in recovery for the foreseeable future.  While many residents are clearly rebuilding, with some elevating their houses to unforeseen heights, many homes remain vacant, a few wrapped in red tape to highlight bureaucratic delays. Some stores display window signs vowing to reopen. Dumpsters and portable storage units dot many streets, from the Canals to the West End. Industrial trucks continue to transport and dump sand up and down the beaches, where shore-goers continue fish, job, stroll or surf. These are a few of the scenes in the city that Patch photographers have captured in recent weeks. Feel free to upload your own photos of post-Sandy Long Beach.
