Long Beach Girls Volleyball Captures County Championship

The Long Beach High School girls volleyball team (17-2) won the Nassau County title Thursday against South Side (14-4) at SUNY Old Westbury.

It took five games to declare a winner, as Long Beach took game one 25-9. After South Side won 25-18, Long Beach rebounded and took game three, 25-15. South Side would not go quietly, as they won game four, 28-26. Long Beach was able to take the rubber game, 25-19 to win the title.

Prior to defeating South Side, the Marines beat Levittown Division (25-20, 25-9, 25-18), MacArthur (25-15, 25-20, 25-18) and Manhasset (25-19, 25-13, 25-20). Before Thursday's loss, South Side bested Garden City (25-10, 25-15, 25-12), Calhoun (25-15, 25-14, 25-22) and Wantagh (25-17, 27-25, 23-25, 21-25, 25-16). 

The Marines go for the Long Island title Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against Kings Park at St. Joseph's.
