More Rangers Alumni to Visit Long Beach on Saturday

A growing list of alumni are expected to be at the Long Beach Ice Arena when the facility reopens 11 months after it was battered by Sandy.

Ron Greschner, Nick Fotiu, Steve Vickers and Brian Mullen will join other New York Rangers alumni at the Long Beach Ice Arena on Saturday, when the facility reopens 11 months after it was battered by Sandy.

As reported earlier, Rangers alumni and city officials will participate in a special exhibition hockey game starting at 6 p.m. Prior to the game, a ribbon cutting, family skating session and free hockey clinic will take place at 3 p.m.

The Rangers alumni who participate in the game will be joined by police officers, firemen, first responders and others who helped in the Sandy relief efforts.

Greschner, Fotiu, Vickers and Mullen will be joined by other Rangers legends, including Stephane Matteau, who scored perhaps the biggest goal in team history when his overtime goal lifted the Rangers past the Devils and into the 1994 Stanley Cup finals. The Rangers went on to win their only championship since 1940.

Ron Duguay, a 1970s star, will also be on hand. If you're wondering what special moment Duguay and Matteau share, take a look at our story from last weekend.
