Lingering Business Vacancies in Long Beach 2013
Since Hurricane Sandy slammed Long Beach in Oct. 2012, several businesses have remained closed. But there were also several storefront vacancies, both big and small, that existed before the storm and linger. Here are a few of the businesses and storefronts that have remained closed throughout 2013.
- The movie reels were supposed to roll again at Long Beach Long Beach Cinema 4, located at the corner of East Park Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard, after owner Seth Pilevsky, co-president of Philips International Realty, told Patch last summer he had every intention of rebuilding after Sandy, but the marquee remains blank and the doors closed.
- The former Kings Pharmacy East suddenly closed its doors at 639 E. Park Ave. last summer, leaving a large vacancy among the strip of stores on East Park’s 600 block.
- The former Sunrise Center recreational facility was proposed to become a five-story senior residence, but the large facility at 367 W. Park Ave. is still boarded up after many years.
- Crossfit King of The Beach and Thrive, a crossfit gym/ chiropractic office, continued operations in Island Park after their West End storefront at 901 W. Beech St. was damaged during last year’ storm. Douglas Elliman Realty in Long Beach continues to seek a new tenant.
- The Long Beach Library’s former West End Branch, 868 W. Beech St., was closed in 2007 and still remains vacant.
- A longtime tenant at 259 W. Park Ave., Long Beach Surgical Supply vacated that unit last year with plans to relocate to a storefront a few doors down.
- The former Beech Street Deli Company at 881 W. Beech St. Was opened in 2010 but has remained closed since Sandy.
- Nick’s Tuscan Grill at 42 E. Park Ave. is out of business and Realtor Douglas Elliman looks to fill the empty unit.
- Kev’s Caribbean Kitchen was knocked out of business after Sandy and Prudential Douglas Elliman seeks to rent the empty unit at 251 W. Park Ave.
