Moku, 7-Eleven Among New L.B. Businesses in 2013

As Long Beach was rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy, several stores opted to open in the storm-battered town in 2013, with a few filling longstanding vacancies, while others moved in where owners were unable to reopen.

Among the newcomers are Momona Gallery, at 158 E. Park Ave., which sells all handmade items including silk scarves from Baldwin to pottery from Bulgaria; Currywurst Company, a German restaurant at 10 W. Park Ave., Aboff’s, the latest in a chain of paint stores that dot Long Island; and Karma’s Angel, a beauty boutique at 68 W. Park Ave., which replaced the storm-damaged Sweets for Shore.

The West End, one of the hardest hit areas in the city, also saw a few new businesses open, including Moku, the lone surf shop in the neighborhood at 879 W. Beech St., and Beech Cabinets, which opened at 880 W. Beech St., the site of the former Coldwell Banker/Beach West Realty, which relocated after the storm.

A couple of national chains built additional stores in 2013. Although they already have a presence in Long Beach, 7-Eleven opened a new store at 969 W. Beech St., the former site of the Ballybannon deli, and Dunkin Donuts opened at 1070 W. Beech St., the former West Beech Beverage. Both businesses were in the works prior to Sandy.
