Highlights West will fill a vacancy at 805 W. Beech St., owner Theresa Viola told Patch on Wednesday, noting that she wants to open her doors for business on Dec. 4. As its name indicates, the studio-salon will specialize in highlights and color, and will also offer skin treatments, or what Viola calls “total rejuvenation for skin,” which include Botox injections.

“They’re usually not incorporated together,” Viola said of the hair, salon and skin services.

While the shop will also specialize in eyebrow waxing, she said, it will not offer nail care.

The unit at 805 W. Beech was formerly occupied by Barking Beauties, a dog-care shop that went out of business, and at a City Council meeting in May, a real estate office was proposed for the vacancy but it failed to materialize, as “for rent” signs remained in the window.

Viola previously owned Highlights, a hair studio in Oceanside, for five year before she moved to Pennsylvania seven years ago. She recently returned to Long Island and lives in Long Beach. Asked why she wanted to open a business in her adopted town, Viola said:

“I love it here, and this area needs the help of a new business,” she said.

During the first week of business the studio will offer free haircuts to “Hurricane Sandy victims,” she said.
