Election Day

Election Day is Tuesday and Long Beach residents will vote in the races for City Council, City Court judge, Nassau County Executive and Nassau County 4th Legislative District. City Hall, at 1 W. Chester St., will be closed Tuesday.

City Council Meeting

Due to Election Day, the Long Beach City Council will meet on Wednesday, instead of Tuesday, for a regular meeting at City Hall.


A History of Jewish Marriage Contract

The Long Beach Library, 111 W. Park Ave., will host a program that will explain the art, history, tradition and soul of the Jewish wedding. Speaker Joan Katz will display the artwork or ketubah artists and discuss the content and decoration (illumination) of each piece with its magnificent array of colors, designs and their religious significance starting at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Lost Treasures:  The Wooden Synagogues of Eastern Europe

The Long Beach Library will present a PowerPoint presentation that combines history and art. Instructor Bill Farran, an artist and historian, made the wooden lino-cuts of synagogues of Eastern Europe built between 1630-1800, all destroyed during the Holocaust. They existed in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus and the Ukraine. The program is at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Weaving Art Workshop

The Mermaid Art Studio, 891B W. Beech St., will hold an experimental Weaving Art Workshop for kids ages 10-14 on Friday. Registration is required.
